Whether you’re getting married in a church or having a civil ceremony one of the prime objectives is to dress up. It’s one of the most important events any person will aspire to and with powerful digital recording devices a vast amount of photos will be kept for generations. Gone are the days when only the professional photographer took the pictures as today everybody at a wedding, including on-lookers, will take hundreds of images on a multitude of convenient, modern devices as smartphones and ipads. The groom and his party need to look their best and that’s where Bartlett & Butcher come into their own. We arrange and organise outfits from the largest social weddings to just dressing a single person going to a Royal Wedding or to one on the other side of the world.
By far the majority of marriages choose morning dress, known as top hat and tails, for its timeless look. Our Motto: ʽwhere tradition is standard and standards are a traditionʼ will never be compromised.
The only fashion aspect to change from year to year is colour – the traditional tailcoat will remain forever because it looks right on all shapes and sizes. The often heard request ʽbut we want to be differentʼ rarely works, often costs a lot more and will look out of place to most before too long.
We fit grooms and their party for weddings all over the world; it’s popular to get married on board a liner whilst cruising, beach weddings are tremedously desirable and we have even recently fitted a wedding in a beautiful bluebell wood. The latest remote locations include Iceland where the wedding party marvelled at the Northern Lights until the early hours, Brazil and South Africa. We are also extremely confident in our assertion that Bartlett & Butcher outfitted the only wedding in Moscow on Christmas Day!
It’s important to ask our advice on protocol. For example if you are a guest at a function held in a Palace a black top hat ought to be worn. Often we’re told the wedding is that of an M.P. at Westminster; Westminster is a Palace. Royal Weddings are always in morning dress. If in doubt and you are not one of the main party but an additional guest, black morning dress is always safe if your invitation does not specify otherwise.
